Within the last few decades, a love for motorized and mechanized recreation has created a wave of opposition to the protections provided by the Wilderness Act of 1964. As this conflict spreads across the west and around the globe, The Palisades Project uses a little known landscape located in the Northwest corner of Wyoming to expose this issue and inspire opposing sides towards a solution.
Born into a military family that was constantly relocating around the world, Mike Vanata didn’t know what home felt like until his parents finally settled in Cody, WY when he was in high school. Now residing in Laramie, WY, Vanata’s production company Square State Film is dedicated to using the art of film in the name of promoting both underdog musicians and environmental causes. When he isn’t hosting local music festivals, taking hard hitting photographs for WyoFile news stories, or expanding his YouTube channel Western AF, you can find him working on a bison ranch on the sagebrush prairie of southeast Wyoming.
